During the reign of James 1st English music was in very good hands. A particularly popular composer of music for families to play and sing at home of an evening was Orland Gibbons. The locally based group Fantasia Viols and Voices re-creates the sights and sounds of this music making with a consort of viols – predecessors of modern string instruments – and a small choir. Marking the 400th Anniversary of the composer’s death this free afternoon concert includes his sublimely beautiful madrigal ‘The Silver Swan’.
