London-based guitarist, singer, composer and band-leader Mario Bakuna is a driving force on the home and international scene taking Brazilian jazz to audiences as far afield as Egypt, Madagascar, Canada and Azerbaijan, while closer to his adopted home Mario has played many of the UK venues that count, including the Royal Albert Hall, Ronnie Scott’s and the Jazz Cafe, as well as jazz clubs and festivals around Europe. In his home town of Sao Paulo, Mario Bakuna studied with prominent musicians including Roberto Bomilcar, the pianist who played with Frank Sinatra during his visit to Brazil, and between touring extensively, Mario has recorded two albums: ‘Where Rio de Janeiro Meets Bahia’ and ‘Brazilian Landscapes’. Expect a rich night of Afro-Brazilian jazz, samba, bossa nova and post-bossa nova.
