Handel himself considered it superior to Messiah\, especially the chorus “He saw the lovely youth\,” which he ranked above the famous “Hallelujah” chorus. Though it was underappreciated in its time\, Theodora is now hailed as a masterpiece of Baroque drama and musical expression.
