DESCRIPTION:£7 SCPT members\, otherwise £10\n£5 per person for groups of four or more \nAn illustrated talk by Andrew Plumridge\, architect and trustee \nAndrew attributes his love of churches to his time spent pumping air into the old organ at Burpham Church\, earning ten bob a time for weddings and nothing on Sundays. “When you’re pumping that lever up and down\,” he says\, “you have plenty of time to enjoy the architecture and pray for electrification!” \nAfter graduating as an architect he first took on the role of Special Projects Surveyor to the Cathedrals Advisory Commission\, working at Wells\, Exeter\, Lincoln and York\, before serving as architect to the dioceses of Oxford\, Winchester\, Guildford and Salisbury. He served as architect advisor to the Berkshire Churches Trust for 27 years and became a trustee to the Surrey Churches Preservation Trust in 1998. \nAlthough best known as an expert on architectural follies\, his talk will take us on a tour of amazing churches from around the world and some of the extraordinary man-made monuments to God. \nAll funds raised from Andrew’s talk will help Surrey’s church buildings via conservation grants made by the Surrey Churches Preservation Trust\, a registered charity run 100% by volunteers. We are looking for volunteers and trustees.

DESCRIPTION:Making a very welcome return to the concert series at St Martin’s Church are not only the international pianists David Nettle and Richard Markham but also their rare and remarkable Pleyel Double Piano. They will be performing some exquisite French music that was written for this ‘push me pull you’ beast of the musical world. Their Saturday afternoon concert is a prelude to a week of recording an album in the church which they favour for its excellent acoustics. Drinks will be served after the concert which lasts about an hour. Admission is by donation.

Their guest saxophonist Naomi Sullivan will also join the choir in works by James MacMillan and Will Todd. In addition\, the programme includes music from composers Paul Mealor\, Gail Randall and Cecilia McDowall with the second part of the concert devoted to the contemplative and much-loved Requiem by Herbert Howells.

A naturally witty composer\, it was entirely characteristic of Rossini to play with his audience’s expectations in this way. Most famous for his 39 operas\, it might also be no surprise that\, in this ostensibly religious piece\, the vocal writing is unashamedly operatic. \nIn this\, the great composer’s final work\, the music ranges from hushed intensity to boisterous high spirits and abounds with the memorable tunes and rhythmic vitality for which Rossini became justly famous. DESCRIPTION:A Community Hub has been set up in Ewell Village\, at Ewell Hall by Jo of Abbeyfield Southern Oaks and run in conjunction and supported by of voluntary groups to include Epsom Rotary and Ewell Rotary.   The sessions are completely free with refreshments and lunch included with advice available and is for the whole community of any age\, anyone who feels that they are struggling with the current way of life\, financially\, loneliness\, health\, benefits\, food… Just somewhere they can go and there is a listening ear.\n\nThe next date of the Hub is Friday\, 01 December 2023 between 10.30am and 1.30pm when a special guest has been invited and again on 22 December 2023 again at 10.30am and 1.30pm. We really hope everyone makes use of this facility\, which may be continued depending on demand.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening with the Epsom and Ewell Silver Band for their annual Christmas Concert at St. Mary’s Church\, The Ave\, Worcester Park. Tickets are £10 and include tea/coffee and a mince pie! \nOn Sunday 3rd December at 7.15pm we’ll be holding our Christmas concert at our usual venue of St. Mary’s Church in Cuddington\, Worcester Park KT4 7HL. This will be our first Christmas concert with our new MD\, Tariq Ahmed. He’s putting together a pretty challenging and spectacular programme for us\, so you won’t want to miss it! \nWe’re always grateful to the Cuddington Residents’ Association and to the Cuddington WI for all their hard work\, including staffing the door and providing refreshments during the interval. \nWe’ve kept our ticket price low at £10 each (under-15’s free without a ticket).
