DESCRIPTION:Join us for FestiVOLE – Our Water Vole Release Celebration Event with Amy-Jane Beer \nIn August of 2022\, years of hard work with the help of hundreds of volunteers came to fruition with the release of 101 voles back onto our local river\, the Hogsmill! On Saturday the 25th of February we will be celebrating this landmark achievement and the river more broadly at the CornherHOUSE Theatre. \nThis celebratory event will feature a talk from Dr Amy-Jane Beer\, a biologist\, nature writer and campaigner. She is the author of over 30 books on natural history\, a Country Diarist for The Guardian\, a columnist for British Wildlife and a regular contributor to BBC Wildlife and Countryfile magazines\, among others. Her recent book\, The Flow\, a beautiful and fascinating book that explores the UK’s rivers\, includes a trip to the Hogsmill and features our water vole project! \nThe event will also premier a short film about the Hogsmill Water Vole project\, directed and filmed by aspiring wildlife filmmaker Molly McNamara-Langton. There will also be a short talk about water voles by Elliot Newton and Ben Stockwell. \nThis family-friendly event will include Water Vole-themed crafted-making activities for children and a book signing session with Amy where you can purchase her book at a discounted price that will also contribute to the water vole project. \nSuggested ages: 7+\nTime: 2 pm until 4 pm

DESCRIPTION:The first edition of the Buildings of England volume for Surrey was published in 1962\, co-authored by Nikolaus Pevsner and Ian Nairn. In November 2022 the first fully revised edition since 1971 will be published. Its author Charles O’Brien is the series editor of the Pevsner Architectural Guides and has revisited every part of the county and hundreds of buildings to bring the guide up to date and expand its coverage. He has researched\, edited and written several volumes in the series since 1997 and will talk about the history of the series and the tasks of revision as well as some discoveries that have come to light in the course of research. \nThe Pevsner Architectural Guides\, were begun in 1951 by the architectural historian Sir Nikolaus Pevsner (1902 to 1983) with the aim of providing an up-to-date portable guide to the most significant buildings in every part of the country\, suitable for both general reader and specialist. Each volume provides an introductory overview of the architecture of the area\, followed by a descriptive gazetteer arranged alphabetically by place. Whilst cathedrals and their furnishings\, great country houses and their parks form the grand set pieces\, the books demonstrate the enjoyable diversity of architecture in the British Isles in accounts of rural churches and farmsteads\, Victorian public buildings and industrial monuments. \nTickets £5. DESCRIPTION:You may be aware that we are not holding a full week of Festival this year\, to give some time to reflect on the way forward in a changed and changing world. But there are going to be some wonderful events\, open to everyone at no cost. There is no need to book. Just come along. You will be made very welcome.\nMonday 5 September – Monday 10 October TIME TO REMEMBER\nEpsom used to have the largest cluster of psychiatric hospitals in Europe (and possibly in the world). Near the Hook Road arena is the Horton Cemetery\, where over 9000 former residents of the hospital are buried in largely unmarked graves.\nAs part of this year’s Festival\, every individual\, family\, charity\, community group and organisation in the Borough is invited to paint a ceramic flower\, obtainable from the Friends of Horton Cemetery stall in Epsom Market Place on Saturday 8 October or at St Barnabas’ Church\, Temple Road\, Epsom KT19 8HA on 10 October.
