SUMMARY:Choral concert of French music including Faure's Requiem
DESCRIPTION:“EPSOM CHAMBER CHOIR PRESENTS FAURÉ REQUIEM\nA wonderful work with a wonderful choir in a wonderful venue! \nEpsom Chamber Choir’s Autumn concert on 15 th November explores the rich heritage of\nFrench liturgical music\, with the iconic Fauré Requiem as its pièce de résistance. Audiences\nwill be very familiar with this much-loved work but perhaps less so with this intimate\norchestration for organ\, strings and harp. This is complemented by shorter\, a cappella works\nby composers Messiaen\, Poulenc\, Villette\, Duruflé and both Nadia and Lili Boulanger (with the\nsneaky addition of Whitacre’s Sainte Chapelle!) \nConductor Jack Apperley says: “We have managed to contrive a programme of French music\nsung entirely in Latin! In the 19 th and 20 th centuries the French produced a wealth of beautiful\nsacred music. While the Fauré Requiem is a choral classic\, the other less familiar works bring a\nparticular French character with their phrasing of the Latin texts and their spicy harmonies.” \nSt Martin’s Church\, with its wonderful acoustics\, is the perfect setting for this inspiring\nprogramme and the highly-regarded Epsom Chamber Choir can be counted on to deliver a\nmemorable performance under Jack Apperley’s direction. \nTime and Place: 7.30pm\, Saturday 15 th November\, St Martin’s Church\, Epsom KT17 4PX\nAdvance Tickets: £17 From www.epsomchamberchoir.org.uk\nTel: 020 8672 5495; Text: 07940 486163 or from a choir member.\nOn the day Tickets: £20\nUnder 21’s FREE”

SUMMARY:Surrey Philharmonic Orchestra Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Surrey Philharmonic Orchestra is proud to present a concert dedicated to the memory of Neil Gilchrist\, who is much missed by all his fellow orchestra musicians. \nThe Magic Flute is a melodic fusion of the sublime & the silly. Following its solemn introduction\, the overture continues with animated\, fugue-style orchestration. Although the opera proved to be a great success\, Mozart died only two months after its opening\, at the age of 35. \nThe third symphony is the shortest of Brahms’ four symphonies. Its third movement will be familiar to many from its frequent use in films. One of the composer’s greatest triumphs\, It is considered by many to be the first Romantic symphony. \nSchumann’s cello concerto in A minor was completed in just under two weeks & was never played in the composer’s lifetime. It’s form is somewhere between three movements played without pause & one continuous movement. \nOur soloist is Kosta Popovic who was born in 2000 into a musical family in Podgorica\, Montenegro. The winner of many international competitions\, Kosta is the founder member of the prize winning Fibonacci Quartet.
