SUMMARY:Epsom World Day of Prayer Service
DESCRIPTION:Everyone is welcome at the World Day of Prayer Service at St Barnabas Church\, Epsom on Friday 6 March at 10am. This year the chosen country is Nigeria and the women of Nigeria have prepared a service that speaks to our need for peace and solace\, drawing on their faith and experiences. It is based on Matthew Chapter 11 verses 28 to 30: I will give you rest. This truly ecumenical and international service creates a continuous wave of prayer that moves across the world over a total of 36 hours. Note there is limited parking at the venue.

The Art Society Epsom led by volunteer Angie Child has been liaising with these schools over the past 2 years showing their Artworks on the station platforms of Epsom\, Ewell and Tattenham Corner. Some of these will also be displayed. \nPrize giving at 6pm Friday 6th at Epsom Library

SUMMARY:Epsom Choral Society –  Brahms: A German Requiem and Rheinberger
DESCRIPTION:This concert features one of the choral masterpieces Brahms’ A German Requiem\, performed in a chamber version. \nThe German Requiem was scored for symphony orchestra and a version for piano duet\, but Epsom Choral Society will perform the work in a relatively new arrangement by Iain Farrington. We will be joined by the English Sinfonietta Chamber Ensemble and soloists\, Elizabeth Findon and Dominic Sedgwick\, and be conducted by Julian Collings. \nWe will also perform works by Josef Rheinberger: the much-loved motet Abendlied\, and his Mass in E flat\, a work for double choir\, considered to be Rheinberger’s finest work.

DESCRIPTION:18th century meets 21st Century in Epsom Chamber Choir’s spring concert where J S Bach’s brilliant Magnificat is paired with Alec Roth’s equally exuberant ‘A Time to Dance’. The Magnificat is popular with singers and audiences alike and ‘A Time to Dance’ consists of numerous short and highly rhythmic movements for choir and soloists. The choir will be joined by the Affinity Chamber Orchestra and expertly directed by their conductor Jack Apperley. With St Martin’s Church providing the ideal acoustics for this programme\, the audience can look forward to a memorable and energising concert.

DESCRIPTION:Tomorrow’s New Quartet are a London-based band compromising some of the UK’s young jazz stars\, namely sax player Tom Smith\, pianist Sam Watts\, electric bass-player Flo Moore and compositional drive behind the band drummer Rod Oughton. Their debut album “All Together\, Now!” was released on Ubuntu in 2022\, and was given the “Editor’s Choice” review in Jazzwise Magazine. They have toured all over the UK and Ireland\, performed the Love Supreme Festival\, and got their music onto BBC Radio 3\, Jazz FM and London Jazz Radio and streamed over a million times across the streaming platforms. TNQ is one of a number of projects of Oughton’s\, who also plays side man to a number of exciting acts including saxophonist Tom Ridout\, latin jazz group the Mañana Collective and a vocalist who the EJC crowd are familiar with\, Ineza. \nLine-up: \nTom Smith – saxophone \nSam Watts – piano \nFlo Moore – bass \nRod Oughton – drums
